2025-2026 SENIOR ASD CLASS

Welcome to Mrs. Nolan’s class!

We are fortunate to have a bright spacious room to work and relax in.  Our class is a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop their independence, communication, and life skills. We provide a structured and nurturing space that celebrates each student’s strengths while helping them reach their full potential. Please login each month to see all we get up to.

June

June has been a fantastic month and a wonderful way to finish the school year. Students enjoyed bringing their bikes and scooters to school and celebrating a class birthday together. They took part in GAA football and hurling sessions, boxercise, tennis and the Carlow Sports Programme, developing their skills while staying active and having fun. A student in Ms Byrne’s class brought in two ducklings for the students to see. It was a wonderful surprise.

Our school tour to Discovery Park in Kilkenny was a highlight of the month. Students explored nature on a guided walk, built a bug hotel and became water scientists as they collected and identified water insects. They also enjoyed the playground, obstacle course and, of course, plenty of fun and laughter on the bus journey.

It has been an amazing year, and all of our students should be very proud of the progress they have made, both in their learning and in the friendships they have built along the way. We wish everyone a happy, safe and enjoyable summer holiday and look forward to seeing you again in the new school year.

May

May has been a very active month. In Maths, students worked hard on developing their understanding of tens, units and multiplication. In History, they enjoyed learning about the Vikings and discovering what life was like in Viking times. We also took part in Bike Week activities and had great fun during our GAA sessions. To top it all off, everyone was treated to a delicious ice cream from the Cosy Cup van. It was a wonderful month filled with learning, activity and lots of smiles.

April

April was a busy and enjoyable month for our students. They had great fun taking part in rounders sessions with Ms Maloney, developing their teamwork and sporting skills. We were also delighted when Ms Byrne brought in some baby chicks, giving everyone a wonderful opportunity to learn about new life and animal care. Throughout the month, students worked hard on improving their handwriting and sentence construction, showing excellent effort and progress in their classroom activities. Well done to all for a fantastic month!

March

This month, our class took part in a range of fun and enjoyable activities. We were delighted to get involved with the Green Schools Committee, helping to tidy and care for our village and school grounds while developing a sense of responsibility for our environment. To celebrate Mother’s Day, we created beautiful art pieces with great care and creativity. We also embraced all things Irish for Lá Glas, joining the whole school in singing and dancing together while proudly wearing green, white and orange, creating a wonderful sense of community and celebration.

February

February was a fun and meaningful month in our classroom. We enjoyed celebrating Pancake Tuesday together, making great memories along the way. Our learning focused on understanding our bodies and how to take care of them, supported by an engaging and informative RSE talk. We are also incredibly grateful to the Sheil and Deacon families for their generous donation, which allowed us to purchase new sensory equipment and toys to enrich our students’ daily experiences and support their learning in a positive and engaging way.

January

January was a busy and exciting month in our classroom. We loved welcoming our grandparents for a special Grandparents’ Day, sharing stories and creating wonderful memories together. We also proudly took part in the Credit Union Art Competition, showing great creativity and effort. In maths, we explored 3D shapes and patterns, building our understanding through fun, hands-on activities. We also learned about the important roles of people who help us in our community, gaining a deeper appreciation for those who support us every day.

December

December has been full of festive fun at school. The children have loved creating beautiful Christmas artwork, filling our classrooms with colour and cheer.

We have really enjoyed watching the other classes perform their Christmas plays and taking part in our own too. The children did an amazing job and loved performing for everyone.

Our school post box has been busy too. Thank you to everyone who sent in Christmas cards. The cards will be collected and delivered to each class, spreading lots of smiles across the school.

The last day of term will be full of excitement with Christmas Jumper Day and our much-loved walk to the castle, a perfect way to celebrate the end of a wonderful term.

We wish all our pupils, families and staff a safe, happy Christmas and a joyful New Year. We look forward to seeing everyone again in the new year.

November

As we move into the holiday season, November has been packed with exciting activities and learning experiences.

We kicked off the month by getting into the Christmas spirit early with a fantastic Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Our students have been busy filling shoeboxes with goodies to bring joy to children in need this festive season. It’s heartwarming to see everyone come together for such a wonderful cause.

In science, students had a hands-on experience learning about the water cycle. Through an experiment demonstrating evaporation and condensation, they explored how water moves through our environment in an engaging and practical way.

The festive fun continued as the classroom was transformed into a Christmas wonderland. Students decorated their space with festive crafts and listened to cheerful Christmas music. They also enjoyed some creative arts and crafts, making decorations and cards to share the seasonal spirit.

We even celebrated a special birthday this month, where everyone enjoyed delicious cake and treats. A perfect way to end the month.

October

October was a busy and exciting month in our classroom. We got creative by entering the Credit Union Art Competition and designing spooky Halloween-themed fondant cupcake toppers. During Maths Week, we had great fun playing different maths games, using lots of hands-on materials, and tackling our daily word problem of the day.

We also enjoyed tasting traditional bairín breac. Especially when it was toasted with butter, delicious. To finish off the month, we celebrated Halloween in style with our dress-up day. The whole school joined in a fantastic Halloween walk to Huntington Castle, played games, and even carved our very own Jack O’Lantern.

What a wonderful way to end the first half of the term
