Welcome to Mrs. Austin’s class!
April
April 2026 brought lots of exciting changes to our classroom. We welcomed a new teacher, Mrs Austin. We worked very hard on Jolly Phonics, numbers, and 2-D shapes. We also painted the colour wheel and learned about primary and secondary colours.
Mrs Austin read lots of wonderful stories to us, and we learned about different fruits and a place called Africa. We joined the mainstream classes for PE, Art, and SESE, which we really enjoyed.

March was a very busy and exciting month. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by dressing up in green clothes at school. We danced and sang Irish songs with our friends, which was great fun. We also designed colourful shamrocks and enjoyed showing our creativity. At playtime, the yard was a sea of green!
We also celebrated World Book Day. Everyone had the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book characters, which made the day extra special. We read a selection of our favourite stories and shared them with our classmates. It was a brilliant and enjoyable day for everyone.
February
During February, our class focused on the theme of “Print and Spring” in Art. The pupils engaged in a range of creative activities, using various printmaking tools to craft beautiful spring flowers. Additionally, we celebrated St. Valentine’s Day by making themed artwork, and constructed St. Brigid’s Crosses using rushes kindly provided by one of our classmates.
We marked Pancake Tuesday by carefully mixing our ingredients and making pancakes together. The result was delicious pancakes that everyone enjoyed.
This month, we explored the topic of growing and changing. The class practised caring for babies and reflected on how much each of us has grown over the past few years.
January
January was a month filled with exciting activities and experiences. We had a wonderful time exploring various projects and engaging in creative learning.
One of the highlights of the month was mixing materials in science. Sensory play was also a big part of our activities, using shaving foam to make the experience even more enjoyable and engaging.
We participated in the Credit Union Art competition, working under the theme of space. The event was both fun and rewarding, as we were fortunate enough to receive medals for our efforts. Everyone enjoyed contributing their artistic skills and creativity.
Printing with various types of food was another interesting activity we tried. Using bright colours, we explored new ways to create unique prints and designs.
As we prepared for the coming spring, we planted bulbs. The anticipation of seeing our plants grow brought excitement. We are eagerly waiting to watch the progress of our new plants.
December
December was an exciting month for our class. On the last day of school before the holidays, we celebrated by wearing our Christmas jumpers. The classroom was filled with colour and cheer as we enjoyed playing a variety of games together. This month, our Christmas Plays took place. We had a great time performing and loved listening to and learning new Christmas songs. Our class also designed and coloured in Christmas cards, allowing us to express our creativity. One of our favourite activities was reciting the rhyme “5 Little Snowmen.” And singing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer We enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree in our classroom, which added a festive touch to our space. To finish off our Christmas preparations, we practiced our cutting skills and carefully glued on Rudolph’s famous red nose. These crafts helped us develop our fine motor skills while also having fun with festive decorations.
