2025-2026 4TH CLASS

Welcome to Ms. Longe’s class!

We are a bright and energetic group of 19 fourth class students who love to learn, explore, and grow together. Our classroom is led by Ms. Longe, who encourages and supports us every day. Whether we’re diving into new books, solving math problems, or working on exciting projects, we always support one another and have fun along the way. We’re so very proud to be part of this amazing learning community

June

June was a busy and exciting month for us. During Active Week, we enjoyed learning a variety of new playground games as well as taking part in tennis, rounders, boxercise and rugby activities.

Our Sports Day was a fantastic success, with everyone participating enthusiastically in skipping, a variety of races, basketball and unihoc. We also enjoyed a special walk to Huntington Castle with Ms Sheriff and 6th Class. As a reward for our hard work in collecting Dojo points, we chose and were delighted to wear our own clothes for the trip.

Another highlight of the month was our school tour to Baltinglass Adventure Centre. We had a wonderful day canoeing, trying our hand at archery, wall climbing and zip-lining.

In between all of these exciting activities, we worked hard to complete our classwork and summer assessments. Well done to everyone on a fantastic month and a great school year!

May

This May, 4th Class have been enjoying a wonderful month filled with fun activities and special events. During Well being Week, the children had a lovely breakfast together in school and really enjoyed paired reading sessions with Senior Infants. They also had the opportunity to take part in Yoga outside in the sunshine with Laura, which everyone loved. Board Game Hour was another big highlight and provided lots of fun and laughter.

There was great excitement around the school with a cake sale to raise funds, and the children enjoyed buying some delicious treats. To make the month even more special, the ice cream van visited the school and everyone was spoiled with a tasty ice cream.

We were also delighted to celebrate Saoirse’s success, who won the Design Your Dream Bike art competition — a fantastic achievement! During Bike Week, every child had the chance to bring their bike or scooter to school, making it a fun and active experience for all. The month wrapped up with our school music concert where we performed tunes we learnt with Paul from Music Generation.

May has certainly been a busy and memorable month for 4th Class, filled with enjoyment, friendship and lots of happy memories!

April has come and gone so very quickly as we enjoyed our Easter holidays at the start of the month. We also learnt about surface tension in water, how to make slime and dying flowers different colours. In SESE we continued our learning about Space completing individual projects on aspects of the Milky way inspired by the recent Artemis Lunar exploration. In groups we made a lunar rover and held races again each other.

In art we tie dyed t shirts which we wore on the last day of the month. We enjoyed rugby with Ezra once a week and Ms Maloney visited the school to play rounders once again with the classes.

During the month of March, Fourth Class engaged in a wide range of enjoyable and educational activities. A highlight of the month was a school tour to the Ernest Shackleton Museum in Athy, where pupils learned about the life and expeditions of the famous explorer. In class we took part in Sam’s Business Bus course exploring and developing our entrepreneurial skills. We interviewed a local entrepreneur to gain further inspiration and insight into starting our own business.

In celebration of Lá Glas, fourth class embraced Irish culture by dressing in green, participating in céilí dancing, and singing traditional Irish songs, creating a lively and festive atmosphere in the school. In Art, the class explored seasonal creativity by making Mother’s Day cards and Easter-themed origami carrots, designing colourful Easter cards. Overall, March was a busy and enjoyable month, filled with learning, creativity, and cultural celebration.

February

4th class had an exciting and creative February filled with hands‑on learning and fun activities! Students designed and built their own bridges in science, then tested their strength by carefully adding coins to see how much weight each bridge could hold. Then they modified and fortified their bridges to be as strong as possible. They also explored how pulleys work and enjoyed experimenting with lifting objects using this simple machine.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the class made colourful “Love Bugs” and practiced their craft skills by weaving beautiful hearts on hessian. In maths they learnt new games using playing cards to practise tables. They used their critical thinking skills to solve geometry problems collaboratively. Pancakes were enjoyed by all, with a big thanks going to our chef Ms O’ Rourke! And finally, our Morning Meeting’s continued much to our enjoyment.  It was a wonderful mix of science, creativity, and celebration.

January

After a special time at home over Christmas with our families, we returned to school well rested and looking forward to being with our classmates once again. January kicked off with some fabulous art lessons including learning how to use water colours to create a countryside scene. We learnt how to weave and we were making St. Brigid’s day crosses independently by the end of the month. We welcomed our Grandparents to our class after a very special blessing in the church by Fr. Andy. One of our classmates Molly Doyle won a fabulous prize in the Credit Union Art competition and was gifted a lovely prize in assembly. We also performed a wrap song at assembly sharing our inner wrap artist in doing so! We have been taking part in the Active School’s Challenge too, with a new activity to engage in each day in school. To mark the celebration of St Brigid and as a nod to her community spirit, we as a class community co operated and created a beautiful St Brigid’s cloak jigsaw art scene.

December

December has been an action-packed fun filled month that has flown past. We performed our Christmas play, A Christmas Quarrel, for our friends and family. It was an amazing experience and we’d so much fun. To mark our success, we had a hot chocolate/ tea party and a Christmas movie afternoon.

This month in history we learnt about The Normans and their influence on Irish society and landscape. We completed team projects on how Christmas is celebrated around the world and presented our learning. For art we designed a festive Christmas window using oil pastels.  In maths we continued on our learning journey of multiplication and division. To mark out success in BEE’ing kind, we had a Anything but a bag day and a little party. We look forward to our annual Christmas walk to Huntington castle and a Christmas jumper day before we head off on our holidays.

November

November kicked off with everyone getting involved in the Shoe box appeal. We gathered items which we know children who are less fortunate would love to receive, and sent them off early in November so they can have a gift for the winter holidays.

In History we learnt about The Celts and created Celtic roundhouses from materials we gathered. In science we designed and created a periscope, exploring and learning all about light, refraction and reflection.

In SPHE we discussed how to have difficult conversations, the qualities and values we have as individuals in order to take part in these difficult conversations. And when we have engaged using these qualities. We are very busy getting ready for our Christmas play which we look very much forward to performing next month.

October

We held our very own democratic elections to chose our representative for the Student Council and the Coiste Gaeilge. Patrick and Ivy were successful in their campaigns winning the elections following a vote. In science, we conducted experiments on light exploring translucency, transparency and opaqueness. We also learnt about static electricity. This information was transferred and used in our art lesson where we created silhouettes and drew side profiles.

We took a flight to Ancient Greece in 4th class where we encountered Alexander the Great. We learned all about his life and achievements. In maths we gathered data and represented this data in various ways including pie charts, bar graphs, line graphs and tally marks. We explored Extreme Weather and its impact on the environment. Finally, we got dressed up in our Hallowe’en costumes for our school dress up day and walked to Huntington Castle for our annual visit. What a way to kick start our Hallowe’en break.

Fourth class have settled back into school life with great energy and enthusiasm. They have started swimming lessons in Graiguecullen swimming pool and are making wonderful progress in the water. Each Thursday, Kevin has been teaching new GAA skills, which is really enjoyable. And we have been enjoying games of rounders too. In SPHE, they explored the importance of connections and friendships, and learned helpful strategies for what to do when friendships go wrong. As Gaeilge bhíomar ag caint agus ag cur ceisteanna ar a chéile i nGaeilge, ag fiafraí faoina faoinár dteaghlaigh, ár gcairde, ár spéiseanna is ag cur síos ar át gcuma féín.
