June

June adventures included a walk around Banks Lane and Huntington Castle, a trip to Clara Lara for First Class and Senior Infants went to Woodfield House. We loved Active School Week with basketball, boxcercise and tennis couaching as well as the annual visit from the ice cream van. Our enteries for the Tullow Show were posted off. We covered the Athletics stand in PE and really enjoyed completing races. We met our new teacher Ms. Byrne and played some ice breaker games. It was a very exciting year and we know Ms. O’ Brien will really miss us!

May

May was a beautiful month full of sunshine. We got outside lots for PE including basketball with our coach Ita. We also had three sessions of rugby with Tullow coach John Manifold. First Class performed on the Ukulele for their parents. Thank you Paul for all your help during the year. We completed our Tullow Show entries and our handwriting looks amazing. We tried and tested our new climbing wall which our school won. We cannot wait to have lots of fun with this in June. In our pictures, we look like we are playing with Smarties. We were in fact taking part in a maths lesson on data. We ate the materials when we finished. As May finishes up, we look forward to a month full of fun from School Tours to Active Week- It promises to be an exciting June!

April

In April we welcomed Ellen Doran on teaching practice. We were very excited to go on Easter Egg hunts, create Easter Cards and Easter chicks. We went on maths trials. After Easter, again Ms. Doran was on teaching practice. We were busy creating narrative stories, learning about weight and length, going to Dramaland etc. On the 29th of April, Story Tales from Music Generation came to visit. They performed for our class, we really enjoyed sitting out in the sunshine and listening to the music. We are now ready for the summer months where we will enjoy more time outside!

March

What a marvellous March we had from Lá Glás and World Book Day, to a visit to the post box, it was a busy March full of lots of learning but equally lots of fun! This month in Irish we learned about An Scoil and An teach. We can now identify varies items in the home as gaeilge! In art we created some St. Patricks Day pieces, became illustrators on World Book Day and created frogs when we learned about the lifecycle of the frog. This month we learned about letter writing, we listened to the story of Dear Louisa, a pig who was having a few problems with Farmer Greg. We then each wrote a letter to someone of our choice, we were very excited to post these and even paid Plunkett’s shop a visit.

We were lucky to have Ryan Jordan in our class this month, he took us for two Rugby lessons. It is not everyday you get a rugby lesson from an international rugby player. Thank you Ryan and safe travels back to New Zealand. Early Intervention is taking place in our classroom this month, we are focusing on time and money.

February

Grandparents Day was held at the beginning of the month. We are very grateful to have welcomed so many grandparents into our classroom. This month we continued to work on the gymnastics stand in PE. We completed a James Bond Roll, a Wonderwoman roll and a Teddy Bear roll. In line with our RSE programme we learned how to take care of a baby, the different names on body parts and how we feed and look after babies. We made clay pots in art and made beautiful Valentine cards for our parents. We have started Early Intervention in Maths. Ms. O’ Neill is teaching us about capacity this month and Mrs. Austin is teaching us all about weight. Ms. O Brien works with us on our numbers. This month Carlow Sports Partnership came to visit the school and we completed some great games with the two coaches in the hall.

January

The children were very excited to have snow this month and it was a funny start to our time back to school. Nonetheless we settled back into our working routine and were delighted to see their friends after Christmas. This month in PE we are working on the gymnastics strand , we are practising our balances and our rolls. First class are putting such a great effort into handwriting, we are now joining our letters all the time. We created lovely New Year’s Eve pictures and learned about an Artist called Romero Britto. We are learning all about houses and homes in our readers and learned a poem all about a turtle. This inspired us to create turtles in art.

December

We hope you enjoyed our carol service over in the church. The children were very excited to have their parents listening to them singing Away in Manger and Mary had a baby. We are ready for our Christmas holidays, we have created some lovely pieces in Art. Have a look!

In Assembly we sang I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas – there are some budding performers in our classroom.  Our library is now full of Christmas books and we have been to Dramaland to visit Santa and the elves.  It really is a magical time coming up to Christmas!

We can sing Jingle bells in Irish and know lots of Christmas words so perhaps you will hear some over the Christmas period. Have a wonderful Christmas everybody.

November

In November we learned all about Space and the different planets. We created astronauts in art. We watched the very first space landing and were amazed at how Neil Armstrong took the very first step on the moon. In November we remembered all those who have gone to Heaven and prayed for them, we also learned about St. Theresé. This month we are focusing on dance in PE, this is fun as we make up our own dance moves with our friends. We have now learned to play Twinkle Twinkle on our Ukulele. The minister for finance, Jack Chambers came into our classroom for assembly. We also performed an Irish song for assembly this month. We are now nearly ready to start the Christmas countdown.

October

It was a busy month here in October. We created lots of wonderful spooky art from cauldrons.  We made witches from toilet roll holders and created our won witch with card. We sand Halloween songs at assembly.  Kevin finished up GAA coaching this month but we are hoping to have him back in the New Year.  We went to Dramaland. We created still images.

5th and 6th class came to our classroom to read. They also helped us with our free writing. We walked to Huntington Castle on our last day before mid-term. We are very lucky to have Huntington Castle  on our doorstep.

September

What a fun and busy month we had. There was great excitement in the class as First Class have started their swimming lessons. We love heading off on the bus each Tuesday. First Class have also commenced their Ukulele lessons. Paul comes each Wednesday to teach the boys and girls- so far we have learned the up strum and the down strum and they practice this in beats of four.

Each Thursday Kevin comes for GAA lessons, we really enjoy working on our football skills with Kevin.
Have a look at our Art, our theme for the month was Myself and Autumn. We used apples from the school garden to print with. We created portraits of ourselves.

In SESE we spoke about what jobs we would like to have when we grow up! There will be football players, Vets, Doctors and a few farmers in our classroom.
