School Calendar

Welcome to Ms. O’Brien’s class!

Take a look at what we got up to this year.

As you can see from the pictures we had a very busy month. Active School Week, a school tour, a trip to Huntington Castle, a trip to Weaver’s Cottage and and Buddy Reading with Sixth Class kept us very busy.

We were learning about animals that live under the sea, one of our favourite books this month was ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We listened to the song ‘Under the Sea’ and created a movement to it, we then created under the sea pictures. These were bright and colourful just like the Great Barrier Reef! Elsbeth finished up with Music Generation, we had one final concert which
Sixth Class came to see. We sang so beautifully.

Senior Infants are ready now to move into First Class and they look forward to a summer of fun with their families.

We are delighted to be outside a lot more this month, we go outside for Aistear, PE and even Irish.
This month we learned about Camping, we had a tent in our classroom and lots of children brought in books and items related to camping. We went on a mini beast hunt and created mini beasts in Art.
We are fortunate to have Ita coming to school to teach us how to play basketball each Monday.

On the 26th of May, the entire school took part in a May Marathon Challenge, to raise money for the playground. This was such a success.

In Music, Elspeth is teaching us about rhythm and keeping the beat.

We cannot wait to go on school tour on June 13 th .

We came back to school after our Easter holidays refreshed and ready for lots more fun and learning! This month we are learning about the Zoo, the job of the Zookeeper and the many animals that live in the zoo. We looked at Dublin Zoo, we can see the penguins and elephants live on the cameras. Our Aistear areas are based on the zoo also, have a look at our pictures! In Irish we listened to the story of Hansel agus Gretel and acted out this story.

The weather this month was really nice and we got outside to the playground and for PE. When the weather gets warmer we hope to go outside for some Aistear sessions too. In English we read two stories, The ZooKeeper and Adventure in the Zoo. Ms O’ Brien borrowed books from Bunclody Library, we listened to the story of the Dead Zoo and What Blew into the Zoo. In free writing we wrote about Zoo animals, we listened to stories of animals escaping, loosing their stripes and many more fantastic tales. In art we created zebras and learned about them in SESE. We learned the Song “Going to the Zoo”, we will perfrom this at assembly.

The month of March flew by. We were busy practicing our Irish songs and poems for Lá Glás. It was a sea of green in school on Thursday the 16th . We performed Shoe the Donkey for the school.

At the beginning of the month a pet farm visited our school hall, there were owls, snakes, lizards and even tortoises.

Our Aistear area was full of rockets, compost and plants!

Each Tuesday Elsbeth visits from Music Generation Carlow, we sing songs and work on keeping the beat and use some hand percussion instruments. We created Mother’s Day jars, giving ten reasons why we love our mothers so much!

We are now looking forward to our Easter holidays. Lease take a look

There are twenty two busy Senior Infants in our classroom who love to paint, sing, dance and have fun learning! Our classroom is a hive of activity and full of resources. We really enjoy hands on learning and using resources such as cubes, Numicon and concrete materials to help us learn! PE days are on Tuesday and Thursday. We love to sing songs, say poems especially our counting songs and rhymes. Every day we read a story together in order to encourage a lifelong love of reading.
