School Calendar

Welcome to Ms. Wadding’s class!

Welcome to Ms. Wadding’s 3rd and 4th class. We have a busy class of 27 this year and we are so excited for the year ahead. We cannot wait to show you all what we get up to over the next few months. We just know that it’s going to be fantastic!

We were lucky enough to start the month with a whole week of school holidays, followed by  our Active Week. During this week, we went on our school trips, had a visit from the Ice-Cream Van and we also had our school Sports Day. We had a wonderful time.
We have also been participating in our ‘teach the teacher’ lessons where we teach our teacher & students in our class all about a topic that we are interested in. There have been many exciting activities such as Soccer, Maths Hunts, Arts & Crafts, Science experiments and History lessons.
We were very fortunate to have been paid a visit from Tullow Fire Service. We had a great discussion and chat about the importance of fire safety and having a fire safety plan in place both at home and in school.
Finally, we celebrated our very own student, Aoibheann in one of our weekly school assemblies. We were lucky enough to watch a video of Aoibheann competing in her gymnastics competition in Bulgaria. It was amazing to see all of her hard work come to life.
Well done Aoibheann!

Firstly, we began our basketball lessons with Ita, which we have been really enjoying. We love learning new drills each week. We also started our soccer league with Ms Wadding. Team 4 were the winners after a very competitive tournament. Well done to them.

After that, we took advantage of the sun and had an Irish lesson outside. We have been learning about the theme An Caitheamh Aimsire, so we wrote our own piece of writing based on our own pastimes as Gaeilge. Learning outside was lots of fun. Ms Wadding also surprised us with some tasty ice pops, so we headed outside to enjoy these delicious treats under the warm sun.

We earned our Blue Flag this year, which has been fantastic. To celebrate this we took part in a walk to Huntington Castle dressed up in all of the colours of our assigned European countries. Our countries were Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovakia and Cyprus.

We have also started our ‘teach the teacher’ lessons this month. This is where the children are given an opportunity to teach a lesson to the class and their teacher! Aoibheann and Anabel prepared lovely a math lessons for us where we had to solve multiplication sums and match the missing letters to the answers. This was great fun.

Finally, our girls camogie team played Kildavin NS in the Division Three  Camogie Final. The girls played an exciting and competitive game and were unlucky in the end. We are so proud of them.

We are ready for an exciting, busy June before our summer holidays.

It was a very busy April here in 3rd & 4th class.

When we returned from our Easter Holidays, we were lucky enough to have been asked to sing for the Confirmation Sacrament this year. We absolutely loved practicing for this and loved being part of the 5th and 6th class’s day. We were very surprised when the Parent’s Council surprised us with a fantastic goodie bag each! We are so thankful.

This month, we have been learning all about Climate Change and our Carbon Footprint. We took a class quiz, which showed us what our carbon footprint was. This was so interesting to see. We then used our amazing STEAM box to create our very own Earth showing the Greenhouse Gases that surround it. We are also completing our group projects at the minute on Climate Change and will present these to the class next week.

We have also had a month full of sport. Our School Soccer League started this month. This is composed of 3rd-6th class pupils. The semi-final matches will take place next week. We are also in the midst of the Cumann na mBunscol Hurling & Camogie tournaments. So far we have played against Myshall NS & Kildavin NS. We have been really enjoying it.

Finally, Finn Murphy in our class took a very special trip this month with his family to visit Old Trafford. He was included in the match’s programme, got to meet some very special players and had his poster signed by the team. He very kindly presented his poster to the class and we were very fortunate to have been shown his photographs too!

This month in Third and Fourth class we had lots of fun!
We celebrated Lá Glas by performing the Haka dance as Gaeilge and we also performed George Ezra’s hit song Green, Green, Grass as Gaeilge too!
We decorated some beautiful pieces of art work inspired by St Patricks’s Day. Our teacher has displayed these all around our classroom.
We also started our Accelerated Reader Programme. We are absolutely thrilled with this and we love reading books and completing quizzes when we are finished.
We celebrated World Book Day 2024 by dressing up as some of our favourite characters.
We also designed our very own book covers for our favourite books too.

This month in Third & Fourth class we were extremely busy with many different activities.
We celebrated PancakeTuesday by making pancakes in our staffroom. After Ms Wadding & Ms Byrne made them, we then chose our own toppings. We also learned all about Shrove Tuesday in Religion and what this important day represents.
Anabel & Caoimhe were our writers of the month. Their report writing pieces were chosen by Sixth class pupils. The standard was very high.
We started our Cluichí trí Gaeilge on Friday afternoons. During this time we play a range of board games, but we try our best to only use Gaeilge when speaking.
Our classroom quotes are now all displayed around our classroom and we are very proud of them.

We enjoyed our start to the year here in Third and Fourth class. January was filled with lots of new and exciting activities. We started our GAA training with Kevin on Tuesdays. We have learned all about team bonding skills, football drills and much more. We cannot wait to see what the next few weeks with him will bring.
We completed our Egyptian projects this week. We had a great time learning all about Egyptian foods, clothing, famous people and pharaohs. Everyone worked so well together and produced amazing projects. Well done everyone!
A few students in our class & Ms Hayden’s competed in the Primary School’s Cross Country Competition which took place in Carlow Hurling Club. Everyone did so well and we are all so proud of them. Paige came seventh in the 4th class girls race and received a medal on the day. Well done Paige!

We had a very festive month here in 3rd & 4th class.
We started our advent calendar on the 1st of December. Each day was filled with a festive activity, Christmas riddle or joke. We loved doing this every morning. We had popcorn & movie days, candy cane treats, Christmas yoga and much more.
Our Christmas play ‘Santa’s on Strike’was a huge success! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed performing for their families and friends.
Our boys & girls teams took part in an indoor hurling tournament in Kildavin. We were unfortunate on the day, but had a great time competing.
Finally, we had a very special visit from an Garda Síochána this month. We loved sitting in the Garda cars, trying out the sirens & meeting everyone.
We would like to wish everyone a safe, healthy & happy Christmas and New Year.
See you in January!

There were lots of exciting things happening during the month of November in Third and Fourth Class.
We began the month with a shared buddy reading activity with Mrs O’Meara’s Junior Infants. We loved reading to the children and we also had a mini P.E  lesson with them.
We decorated our classroom in time for the Late Late Toy Show with Patrick Kielty. We all decorated our class tree by hanging lights and baubles on it. We did a Late Late Toy Show quiz and Ms Wadding gave us some Late Late Toy Show treat bags to bring home.
We are so excited for the busy December we have ahead, especially as we will be performing our class play – SANTA’S ON STRIKE!

October was a great month here in 3rd & 4th class.
Our annual Halloween walk to Hunting Castle kicked off our midterm break. There were lots of creative, spooky costumes around Clonegal! We performed our Thriller song & dance in our whole school assembly. We had so much fun learning this.

Our girls football team competed in their final in Fenagh on Thursday the 26th of October. Unfortunately we were unlucky in the end, however we are so proud of each and every player.

We have had a very busy September here in Third and Fourth class.
Our guitar lessons have started back with Paul from Music Generation. We look forward to each and every Wednesday with him practising our musical skills. We are currently learning Shivers by Ed Sheerhan and also Zombie by The Cranberries.

Swimming lessons are in full swing already, as each and every Tuesday we head to Graiguecullen Swimming Pool. We have a busy day of travelling on the bus and have learned so many water skills this year so far.
We are very fortunate to have Ms Nolan working with us this month. She has been teaching usa few lessons each day, which have been so much fun. We have completed Data in Maths, Bia sa Gaeilge, Tom Crean in History, Arranmore Islands in Geography and many more topics with her.

Cumann na mBunscol is back to a flying start. We have played two away games so far this year in both Myshall and Kildavin. Our girls team had a great win over Kildavin this week and we are all really enjoying taking part.
