Active School 2020-2021

For a number of years we have been introducing different activities that help us implement the Active School Flag Programme. One of which is our annual Active School Week, with our Sports Day. One of the aims of the programme is to raise awareness, in the whole school community, of the need for physical activity in a healthy lifestyle. The Active School Flag is awarded to schools who strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community.

Active School Committee
Our Active School Committee, consisting of 14 pupils from 1st class upwards, meets and discusses our progress, makes future plans, conducts spot checks, etc. They update the active school board and check the suggestion box. You will recognise our committee as they wear an active school badge.

How to achieve an Active School status
To achieve Active School status, the school must engage in self-evaluation in the areas of planning and professional development, physical activity throughout the school day and extra-curricular activities and develop partnerships with outside agencies. They must also organise an Active school Week. The school must then draw up an improvement plan which is clearly linked to the self-evaluation process findings. Targets are set and various programmes introduced. When the school feels it has met its targets, it must submit evidence of the work completed and request an accreditation visit.
